Share the Word (4 years - First Communion) Share the Word is a children’s Liturgy of the Word program designed for children four years of age up to the time they make their First Communion. The program takes place during the 8:15 AM and 10:30 AM Sunday Masses October through April except Chicken Dinner weekends. The children and their catechist are called forward at the beginning of Mass, receive a blessing, and are sent forth to break open the Word (the Sunday scripture readings) at an age appropriate level. During the time the children are with their catechist they sing, pray, hear the Word proclaimed and then discuss the meaning of the readings. The children return to Mass as the gifts are being prepared for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Elementary (K-5)
The goal of our religious education program is to draw our young people into a deeper relationship with God through active participation in the life and ministry of the Church. Faith development begins in the home and parents are the primary teachers and models of our faith. The religious education program of Shepherd of the Hills strives to support, guide, and supplement the faith nurtured in the home.
Shepherd of the Hills Religious Education Program integrates the following components into each level of a child’s faith development:
Students use the RCL Benziger 'Blest Are We' Religious Education Program.
The Edge Program (6-8) What is The Edge? The Edge is a Catholic middle school youth ministry experience created for early adolescents in grades 6 – 8. It is designed to meet the educational, spiritual, emotional, and social needs of young adolescents. Its goals are to create a positive experience of the Catholic Church for early adolescents, and to assist middle school youth in gaining an understanding and appreciation of what the Catholic Church teaches and believes. The format follows that of the Life Teen program and thus lays the foundation and provides a natural transition into the Life Teen program in grade 9. Life Teen Program (9-11)
What is Life Teen? Life Teen is a comprehensive youth ministry program for teens in grades 9-11 that has a strong focus on the Eucharist. The goal of Life Teen is to provide an environment in which teens can feel loved and accepted and can grow closer to Jesus Christ. On the first and third Sundays of the month during the school year, teens gather for a 6:00 PM Mass geared toward their spiritual needs. Immediately following Mass they gather for a Life Night that takes place in the school gym and cafeteria until 8:45 PM. The Life Night provides an opportunity for the teens to learn about the truths of the Catholic faith in creative and challenging ways.
LIFE TEEN PRAYER
Jesus, the Bread of Life, taken, blessed, broken and given away so that all might be healed and have LIFE.
Father, TAKE my life as a teen. I offer myself to You with open hands. Through the example of Jesus, teach me to surrender my life fully to You.
BLESS me with the knowledge that I am loved by You and that I truly belong to a community of love and mercy.
BREAK open my heart so that the seed of the Word and the power of the Eucharist can be planted in fertile ground, take root, and transform my life.
SEND me into the world with the power of the Holy Spirit to be witness to the love of Jesus and serve Him in each person I meet.

Safeguarding All of God's Family
In a pastoral effort to respond to the need for the protection of children and youth in our parish, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee has developed a program called Safeguarding All of God's Family. As part of this program, all students in grades K-5 in the religious education program at Shepherd of the Hills will be presented information on how to protect themselves and become aware of their surroundings.
This class is typically held in the spring of each school year. Please check the calendar for dates.
K-8 classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:15–7:30 PM at Shepherd of the Hills. Life Teen Mass and Life Nights are held on the first and third Sundays of every month. Since we only have limited number of hours of actual instruction time, it is important that students attend all classes. Please call the Religious Education Office at 477-3551 x. 208 to register an absence. Voice Mail is available for messages.
Students should be dropped off at the school (south east) entrance. Students should not be dropped off before 6:10 PM, as there is no supervision. No other doors should be used for drop off.
Students will be dismissed from the school (south east) entrance. We ask that parents or a designated adult pick up their younger children at these doors and escort them safely through the parking lot. No other doors will be used for dismissal.
In the event that Shepherd of the Hills needs to cancel classes, we will notify you using the Alert Now Calling System.
