Human Concerns

One of the goals of the Human Concerns Commission is to reach out to people in need: locally, nationally, and internationally. Each year, a percentage of the general parish budget is set aside for this purpose. On behalf of the Human Concerns Commission, the Outreach Committee accepts applications for organizations in need of assistance to provide for those less fortunate.

Baby Shower

During October, which is designated as Respect Life Month, Shepherd of the Hills organizes a “baby shower”. A crib is placed in the church, inviting parishioners to contribute new baby items. Items such as formula, toys, baby clothes, diapers, and more are greatly appreciated. These donations are distributed to mothers in need throughout Fond du Lac and Sheboygan Counties.

Communion Ministry to the Homebound

It is important to remember that some members of our parish family are homebound and residing at healthcare facilities. They are not able to attend Sunday Mass on a regular basis with the rest of our parish community. In an effort to reach out to them, volunteers are needed to distribute the Eucharist to the homebound and those in healthcare facilities. Those unable to attend Mass are grateful to receive the Eucharist and to receive a visit from a member of our parish family. Consider serving in this very important and meaningful ministry. Training is provided.

Elizabeth Ministry

Following the example of Mary and Elizabeth, we visit and share the sacredness of life. Treasuring the gift of fertility, mourning each miscarriage, abortion, stillbirth, or infant loss, celebrating the gift of each child conceived and born, helping families in crisis, encouraging those in the adoptive process, and supporting those suffering infertility. Elizabeth Ministers also support grandparents and those facing troubled times. If you are interested in becoming an Elizabeth Minister or sharing your stories and experiences, please send an email to elizabethministry@sothparish.org

Overture International (Hope Village - HAITI)

Shepherd of the Hills has been assisting our friends in Haiti since 2004. Overture International has upgraded the Espwa campus, and it is being used for the reunification of children with their families. It is also being used as a school and a clinic for medical care in addition to providing parenting classes and job training. The land is being leased to local farmers who are growing rice and beans, which are the staple of their Diri Lavi diet. Our partnership with Haiti is very important to our parish and to them, as we have donated over $1 million since 2004. Human Life Chain

The Human Life Chain is celebrated in downtown Fond du Lac in the month of October. Shepherd of the Hills parishioners and area Christians of all faiths gather in the shape of a cross for an hour of silent prayer and vigil to promote the dignity of life.

Prayer Line

A group of Shepherd of the Hills parishioners has formed a prayer line to intercede for the needs of fellow parishioners and our area community. If you have a special prayer request or need, you may call the prayer line, and your intention will be passed on to all members of the prayer line who will lift up your need to the Lord. Prayer requests are confidential and can be made in anonymity.

St. Vincent de Paul Society

The Shepherd of the Hills St. Vincent de Paul Society is a Catholic lay organization of friends who meet monthly and who grow spiritually by offering direct service to the poor and needy in our area. The society members make personal visits to those experiencing financial hardship and who need food, shelter or utility bill assistance. St. Vincent de Paul sponsors a fund drive during the month of November and an Advent Candle Project to share gift cards with those in need. The St. Vincent de Paul Society is always looking for new members to be a part of its important mission and to be the face of Christ to those they serve.
